Please join us at Roosevelt House for a discussion about one of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s top commanders. Author David L. Roll will present his new book, George Marshall: Defender of the Republic, which tells the story of America’s most distinguished soldier-statesman since George Washington—whose selfless leadership and moral character influenced the course of two world wars and helped define the American century.

Long seen as a stoic, almost statuesque figure, he emerges in these pages as a man both remarkable and deeply human, thanks to newly discovered sources. Roll will be in conversation with Craig L. Symonds, Distinguished Visiting Ernest J. King Professor of Maritime History at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, RI. Symonds is one of the nation’s leading naval historians, and author of such books as The U.S. Navy: a Concise History and World War II at Sea: A Global History.
